Rear-Naked Choke

A blood choke applied from back control, one of the most reliable submissions in grappling and MMA.

Key Points

  • •No gap at the neck means faster, more effective pressure
  • •Maintain back control throughout — don't lose your hooks
  • •This is a blood choke; release immediately on a tap

Instructions

  1. 1From back control, slide one arm under the opponent's chin.
  2. 2Clasp your hands together (or grip your own bicep) to lock the choke.
  3. 3Pull your elbows in tight to remove any gap at the neck.
  4. 4Squeeze your arms together while pulling your chest toward your choking arm.
  5. 5Maintain hooks and control to prevent them from escaping as you finish.
