Clinch

Overhook (Whizzer)

Wrapping your arm over an opponent's arm to control the clinch and defend against being taken down.

Key Points

  • •Primarily a defensive tool against being taken down
  • •Weaker for offense than an underhook
  • •Keep hips square to avoid being spun

Instructions

  1. 1Wrap your arm over the top of the opponent's arm at the shoulder or triceps.
  2. 2Pinch your arm tight to prevent them from circling behind you.
  3. 3Use your free hand to control their head, hip, or far arm.
  4. 4Turn your hips away from the overhooked side to relieve pressure if being controlled.
  5. 5Look to convert the overhook into a takedown or to create separation.
