Low Kick

A roundhouse kick to the opponent's lead or rear thigh, used to wear down mobility over a fight.

Key Points

  • •Full hip pivot is essential for power and to protect your foot/ankle
  • •Repeated low kicks impair opponent mobility over time
  • •Watch for checked kicks (opponent lifting their knee to block)

Instructions

  1. 1Step slightly off-line with your lead foot to open your hips toward the target.
  2. 2Pivot fully on your standing foot so your hips rotate through the kick.
  3. 3Swing your kicking leg in an arc, striking with your shin against the opponent's outer thigh.
  4. 4Keep your hands up to guard your head as you kick.
  5. 5Recover quickly back into your stance after impact.
